BED4U HOTELS JOINS THE 'ONE TWO… TREE!' IN NICARAGUA
BED4U 15/09/2015
The director of the Bed4U Pamplona hotel, Laura Ruiz, will participate in the 'Employee Volunteer Program' of the NGO, training Nicaraguan adults in the area of tourism, during the month of September.
“What began as an adventure in a personal capacity, has ended in a collaboration between Bed4U Hotels and One, two… Tree! that aims to go much further than teaching classes ”, says Laura Ruiz. The hotel manager started this experience out of a personal concern. However, “as I progressed with the preparations for the trip, I realized the potential contribution that incorporating the hotel chain into the project would entail. And in Bed4U they made it very easy for me ”.
According to One two… Tree !, tourism in Central America is continuously growing and represents 9% of the region's GDP, employing thousands of young people with little training. For this reason, this non-profit organization is committed to education in this area as a key to promoting the tourism sector and the country's economic infrastructure. "A project in which both me and my company fit in perfectly," says Laura.
The role of Bed4U Hotels will focus on the dissemination of the solidarity project, on providing specific educational material for the courses that the director will teach, and on financial support that will evolve in response to the real needs that arise on the ground.
Customer service and protocol, central themes of the course.
The training given by the director of the Pamplona hotel will focus on two fundamental pillars: customer service and restaurant protocol. "I have selected the content based on the educational level of the students and I have worked in an attractive format, based on games, simulations and the development of creativity," explains Laura.
In addition, the director of Bed4U Hotels will teach English, a language that is not widely used in Nicaragua but which represents a very important differential when it comes to finding work, especially in the growing tourism sector.
From One, two… Tree! They assure that the course has generated great expectation among the population, making it necessary to create several groups to respond to the demand.
Real connection with the world of work
The Labor Insertion Program, in which Laura will participate, consists of training the unemployed and disadvantaged people, followed by work placements in hotels and restaurants in Nicaragua. 80 people have benefited from this program since February 2014.
To this day, One, two… Tree! collaborates with 5 hotels and restaurants: Hilton Hotel (Managua), Garden Café (Granada), Mi Bohío Hotel (Diriamba), La Nani Café (Diriamba) and Vila's Restaurant (Diriamba).
The training plan consists of three months of intensive English courses, which include work simulations in hotels and restaurants. The students with the best results have access to work placements in the companies with which One, two… Tree! has an agreement. At the end, a certificate is issued about the work done by each participant. Best of all, many of these young people get a permanent contract at the hotel where they did their internship.
Solidarity adventure for all
Laura Ruiz is not only going to share her dreams and adventures with her company, but also everyone who is interested will be able to follow her experiences and reflections through her personal blog http://elsenderodelaura.blogspot.com.es/ “Lo I am going to do, above all, in gratitude to all the solidarity that I have found during the organization of the trip, on the part of clients and related companies. I am very grateful for all the support and material that they have donated. I owe it to them! " Laura comments.
An example of this is Javie, a client of Bed4U Pamplona, and a worker in some pharmaceutical laboratories, who has personally donated boxes of Afterbite and Repelbite that are already on their way to Nicaragua.
The blog and the social networks of Bed4U Hotels will also echo the experiences of the hotel director, through the publication of post and graphic material that the director will provide, with the hashtag # ConexionNicaragua4U
